The Broadcom HBA 9500-16i Tri-Mode is a powerful Host Bus Adapter (HBA) for professional server, storage, and data center environments. With support for SAS, SATA, and NVMe on a single controller card, it enables flexible connection of modern storage solutions and is ideal for virtualization, software-defined storage, backup servers, and high-performance workloads.
The storage controller connects via PCI Express 4.0 x8 and provides 16 internal drive connections, implemented via two SFF-8654 x8 connectors. It supports 12 Gbit/s SAS, 6 Gbit/s SATA, and PCIe Gen4 NVMe (Tri-Mode), allowing the simultaneous operation of various drive types.
As an HBA (Host Bus Adapter), the 9500-16i operates without hardware RAID and makes connected drives directly available to the operating system. This makes the controller particularly suitable for file systems such as ZFS, TrueNAS, Proxmox, or other software RAID and storage solutions where direct access to the disks is required.
